The
Task (1985-1989): first major
band. The 1985-88 edition (Bill, Jaytee, Randy and Lou on guitar) toured the Midwestern "A" circuit (OH-MI-IN) from their home base in Lansing, MI. Their popularity stemmed from a set list including covers by 80s hair bands
mixed in with their own originals. Jaytee pulled dual duty on bass and vocals. A nine-song EP was recorded but funds ran short before the album could be pressed (yes, this was vinyl). However,
the ballad "Straight On You" did receive regular rotation
on a Michigan Top 40 station.
Lou left the band in 1988 and was replaced by guitar phenomena Ron Wood (no relation to the guy in the Rolling Stones). The Task played several gigs before agreeing it was time to take a break. Jaytee made her way out west to attend VIT; Ron and Randy pursued separate and varied musical opportunities; Bill got married and became an astrophysicist. The band was still on hiatus as of July, 2007.
Member Update: Randy is drumming for two Detroit bands (RockStar 80's Tribute Band and all-original Slave To The Beautiful).
Band Update: Rumors abound that there may be a Task Reunion in the works. Jaytee, Bill and Randy met recently in Michigan (Ron had a scheduling conflict). Though nothing is written in stone, the meeting went well and all four agreed to the possibility of online collaboration, updating the old material, and potentially recording new material.
